Residents at Galsworthy House Nursing Home in Kingston upon Thames were treated to a dance session by Dance Health Alliance™ this week.
Dance Health Alliance™ is a Not For Profit organisation, facilitating innovative dance programmes designed to improve quality of life, help restore body/mind balance and combat ill health. Focusing on people living with Multiple Sclerosis, Rheumatoid & Osteo Arthritis, Parkinson's Disease, Dementia and Alzheimer's to regain freedom through movement.
The residents were invited to two separate sessions one in the Richmond room and the other in the Forsyte room to cater for varying levels of Parkinsons and dementia at Galsworthy House.
These sessions are great for the residents, not only does it improve social interaction but it provides a source of exercise with low level resistance that everyone can join in with.
The residents danced along to African drums, Coppelia and more traditional music such as 'You are my sunshine' and 'When you're smiling', so there was also a little singing along too.
We look forward to building our sessions up with the residents and inviting the Dance Health Alliance™ back soon.
