Music, Song And A Showcase of Fabulous Food – It’s Care Home Open Week At The Orchard
Care Home Open Week is all about welcoming the local community to our homes and celebrating what we do, and The Orchard played host to guests of all ages at their events.
Local Schoolchildren Delight Residents
The arrival of 40 smiling faces was a wonderful way to start Care Home Open Week as Year 1 pupils from St Alban and St Stephen Catholic Primary and Nursery School arrived at The Orchard Nursing Home.
The children led a delightful service about St Francis of Assisi, singing and performing beautifully in The Orchard’s sun-filled garden. Residents loved receiving orders of service and pretty cardboard birds that the children had decorated with colourful feathers. It was a special occasion which brought together residents, children, faith leaders, and members of the wider community, with thanks to Maggie Dodd at Anna Chaplaincy St Albans who was instrumental in organising and helping to make the event so memorable.
Garden Party Features Pop Classics and Fabulous Cakes
Switching styles completely, musician Frank entertained residents and visitors to the care home at an afternoon garden party. The sun continued to shine as he performed a fantastic selection of 1950s and 1960s classics on his guitar, and there was dancing too. Drinks flowed and everyone was impressed by the selection of fabulous cakes that had been created by the home’s talented chefs. It was a happy, sociable afternoon where everyone enjoyed great company, including ladies from McCarthy and Stone who had previously joined residents for ‘High Tea at Three’. Shirely commented “This garden is so beautiful and calm, thank you so much for inviting us into your home with all these lovely events you hold”.
Cultural Day Celebrates Food Created By Team Members
As part of Care Home Open Week, Home Manager, Dumitru, also wanted to celebrate his hardworking team so he initiated a Cultural Day where staff presented delicious dishes representing their own cultures. There was a real buzz as everyone got involved preparing and sharing their favourite food with colleagues, residents and families. It was a chance to experience some inspired cooking, but also an opportunity to celebrate the diversity, talent and team spirit at The Orchard. Hats off to Manager, Dumitru, who fully embraced the occasion by sporting the funniest apron of the day!
The sense of community and camaraderie lasted all week and it’s safe to say that whilst visitors were bowled over by the team’s wonderful hospitality, residents were also fully engaged and delighted to be involved in celebrating Care Home Open Week at The Orchard.
