Success At Oxfordshire Care Awards For Benson House Wellbeing Assistant, Rajaa
The team at Benson House were delighted when Wellbeing Assistant, Rajaa El Bendadi, won the Care Home Worker Award at this year’s Oxfordshire Care Awards.
The Oxfordshire Care Awards, run by the Oxfordshire Association of Care Providers, celebrates outstanding care in Oxfordshire each year. Designed to offer ‘inspiration for all’ this year’s awards event, held at The Oxford Belfry on Thursday 21st March, showcased a fantastic group of winners and finalists across 12 categories.
Inspirational Team Member, Sought After by Relatives
The team at Benson House Care Home, in Wallingford were thrilled to see Rajaa win her category and were also delighted that Home Manager, Cathy Deocadez, was one of the four finalists for the Nursing Practice award.
Care Home Worker award-winner, Rajaa, is a wonderful example of an inspirational team member. In her role as Wellbeing Assistant, she will always find a way to interact with every resident on their level and is equally happy running a group activity for residents and encouraging participation, sitting quietly with individuals painting their nails and brushing their hair, or taking restless residents on a trip to the local coffee shop or for a walk by the river.
Described as ‘one of the most sought after staff by relatives’, one relative commented, “She works tirelessly to create a warm, engaging, and supportive environment for residents. Her patience, compassion, and creativity truly shine through in the activities she plans and the one-to-one time she gives. Rajaa goes above and beyond to ensure every resident feels valued, comfortable, and included. Her hard work and dedication do not go unnoticed, and the positive impact she makes each day on the dementia floor is truly inspiring.”
Making a Huge Difference to Residents, Relatives and the Team
Rajaa is willing to step up and be involved in anything that is needed during her shift. She also provides support to her colleagues outside work, and in the community. On one occasion, a colleague went into labour, at home and alone. Not wanting to disturb her husband at work, she called Rajaa who came straight over, helped safely deliver the baby, then drove mum and the new born to the John Radcliffe Hospital! The baby was named Rajaa.
Always happy to try something new, Rajaa accompanied a resident on a trishaw ride earlier this year - testament to her wholehearted commitment to supporting the wellbeing of residents at Benson House in whichever way suits them best!
Home Manager, Cathy Deocadez, said, “We’re incredibly lucky to have Rajaa on our Wellbeing team but she offers so much more to the whole community at Benson House. I can think of many situations where Rajaa has stepped in and made a huge difference to a resident, a relative or a team member, and I value her contribution to our care home immensely. I’m so pleased that her hard work and dedication have been recognised by this award”.
