New Look Latham Lodge Shines After Spring Makeover
A special High Tea was served at Latham Lodge to celebrate the care home’s fresh new look, the result of a scheme to enhance the overall environment for residents.
Springtime is the perfect time for a makeover and Latham Lodge Nursing and Residential Care Home benefited from significant investment to upgrade its interiors and bring the outside spaces to life. Relatives and guests from the local community were invited to tour the home, meet the team, and enjoy a delicious High Tea to mark the completion of the refurbishment.
Attractive Courtyard, Welcoming Reception and Two Brand New Bedrooms
The creation of a courtyard area, complete with flower-filled planters and attractive shrubs in pots, gives the new covered front entrance a focal point, and the positive first impression continues into the freshly decorated reception area. Its newly installed kitchenette and additional seating bring a cheerful, sociable ambiance and a welcoming area for family, friends and visitors to the care home.
Corridors have been painted to feel light and calm, improving the flow throughout the home alongside updated signage which gives clear details and directions. Other decorative touches include adding deep blue cupboards to complement the dining room’s pretty blue walls, and a smart contemporary look for the hair salon.
The team is especially proud of the home’s two brand new bedrooms, one with an ensuite wet room, both attractively decorated to create a homely environment for their residents.
Colour, Scent and a Sun Trap for Residents
Latham Lodge has a garden spacious garden and terrace which are accessible from the main lounge, so the aim of the external project was to enhance the area and encourage residents to spend more time outside. The scheme includes raised beds with cottage garden planting to give colour and scent, providing a relaxing spot to sit for afternoon tea. Since the arrival of chic new garden seating with parasols and warmer spring weather, residents have been enjoying the benefits of their very own sun trap!
Caring Homes’ Head of Strategic Design, Ginny Clarke, devised the concept but was also involved in bringing it to live. She and Jonathan, the care home’s gardener, went to local garden centre, Keydell Nurseries, and chose the new plants and pots together. Ginny also popped down with her other half one weekend to dig out a huge ‘Red Robin’ tree from the front and reposition it in the rear garden. It was a full-on day of heavy lifting which they got through thanks to regular coffee top-ups and homemade sausage rolls provided by Head Chef, Nathan.
Ginny said, “I think this additional boost to the outside linked with the new internal developments have improved the home for everyone; it feels like a real home from home environment”.
Nathan’s skills were also on display at the event hosted to mark the completion of the works. Residents were joined by their families and guests to enjoy High Tea, with fabulous cakes piled high and brought into the lounge on a special tea trolley. Afterwards the home’s regular entertainer sang for the residents, making the afternoon in their newly spruced-up home feel extra-special!
