Residents at Huntercombe Hall in Oxfordshire are pleased to receive regular visits from Kitty, a local Vintage Singer who entertains residents throughout the year. Kitty provides timeless ambience, singing classic songs from the era of jazz and swing, with music from the ‘20s to the ‘60s. Her songs are particularly popular with residents at Huntercombe, who happily join in.
Music plays a big part of life at Huntercombe and Kitty is able to build fantastic relationships with residents to ensure they feel comfortable to join in whenever they want to. If residents can, they are up and dancing along to songs, sometimes together, sometimes with staff, sometimes by themselves.
“It’s fantastic that Kitty visits us so regularly” said Bernie Boyle, Home Manager; “Music is so important to us at the home as residents are able to remember and talk about different times in their lives. Often residents find it easy to remember old songs and music as these reach a part of the brain in ways other forms of communication cannot.”
“At Huntercombe, the mental wellbeing and stimulation of our residents is of the utmost importance to us and we have found that music is a particularly good way to engage all our residents. Kitty ensures her performances are inclusive to all. Everyone has memories associated to certain songs and we help our residents unlock these memories by playing music and having a sing along together.”
