Laverstock Team Completes 15km ‘Walk For Wards’ Fundraising Event

14th July 2025

It was a gloriously sunny day as a group of staff, residents’ families and supporters from Laverstock joined forces for a charity walk in aid of the Stars Appeal – Salisbury Hospital’s charity.

High Spirits and Enthusiasm for 15km Route

Spirits were high as Laverstock Care Centre team members Kezzie, Ashleigh, Leanne and Tracey, along with Leanne’s son Ryan and Ashleigh’s daughter Roseanne, gathered early for a hearty pre-walk breakfast.

Before they began, everyone had received official walk t-shirts and participant numbers, which added a real sense of occasion to the day. Participants in the Stars Appeal 20th Walk for Wards fundraising event were given the opportunity to walk 3, 5, 10 or 15km. Ready to go with water bottles filled and sunscreen applied, the Laverstock team hit the trail with enthusiasm as they embarked upon the new 15km route, which took them through the stunning grounds of the Wilton House estate.

Challenging Walk Inspires Camaraderie and a Sense of Achievement

The walk was challenging at times – the heat certainly made it feel longer! – but the camaraderie kept everyone going. Whether admiring the estate’s gorgeous scenery or just sharing jokes to keep each other motivated, they were all in it together. There was a small mishap along the way – Tracey had a minor fall and came away with a few scratches on her arms and legs. But in true team spirit, she dusted herself off and kept going, cheered on by those around her.

Crossing the finish line brought a real sense of achievement. As Ashleigh put it “With blood, sweat and tears we finished it! Literally blood as we had a man down who had a fall (referring to Tracey) but she was okay and carried on”. Hot, tired, and with a few sore feet, each walker was handed a well-earned medal – a lovely way to mark the day and their efforts. Cold drinks at the end gave the group the perfect chance to cool off and reflect on what they’d just accomplished.

Fundraising with Special Significance

The fundraising side of the walk was also a huge success. Over 2000 registered walkers raised more than £100,000 for Salisbury Hospital, with Laverstock’s plucky team contributing over £1200.

The funds raised will go towards supporting the ICU, Farley Ward, and the Children’s Ward – departments that have particular meaning to staff and residents at Laverstock. Many residents are referred from Salisbury Hospital, since Laverstock specialises in Nursing and Dementia care, and those receiving treatment in the care home’s Hobbs rehabilitation wing regularly come from the Farley Ward after surviving a stroke. The hospital’s Children’s Ward has particular significance for Laverstock staff members whose children have spent time there.

Proud of the Laverstock Community Spirit

For the Laverstock team, the day wasn’t just about the walk, it was about connection, laughter, and the shared experiences that really bring the Laverstock community together – and all for a very worthy cause. “We're so proud to support such vital services that have helped many of us and our residents during difficult times”, said Leanne. “Thank you to everyone who donated and cheered us on – it means the world.”
