Parris Lawn Care Home Hosts Blue Light Breakfast For Local Firefighters
Blue skies and sunshine provided the perfect backdrop last week when the team and residents at Parris Lawn had the pleasure of hosting a group of firefighters from Lewes fire station.
The Perfect Day for a Q&A
Shortly after 9am, a shiny red fire truck pulled into the car park at Parris Lawn Care Home in Ringmer. Residents had already been primed to expect a social call from the fire service so when Paul and members of his watch from the local station at Lewes emerged from the vehicle, nobody wondered where the fire was!
The crew were presented with some warm breakfast pastries and cappuccinos, which they enjoyed while chatting to residents and team members. During the Q&A that followed, residents asked a range of questions during a fun, sociable hour. Some were keen to know how the engine and the hoses worked, others were curious about the operational challenges faced by firefighters, wondering how busy they had been recently and how long they had worked in the service. One resident asked cheekily if any of them could sing!
Singalong Features Frank Sinatra Favourites
There was a point to this question as Paul and his watch were invited to join in the residents’ regular singalong, which this time featured a medley of Frank Sinatra classics. They gamely joined in, before escorting the residents outside to the fire engine where photos were posed for. Nothing was too much trouble for Paul and his watch as they bonded with everyone at Parris Lawn, including making time to visit residents who were unable to leave their rooms.
Thank You from Parris Lawn and the Local Community
Hosting breakfast was just one way that the Parris Lawn community and residents of Ringmer and Lewes could say ‘thank you’ to their local fire fighters for the work they do. Everyone hopes there will never be a reason to call the fire brigade – but it’s comforting to know there are people out there who are ready, willing and able to respond in an emergency.
On a non-emergency level, everyone thoroughly enjoyed their company. Resident Pat P asked Paul if his watch could drop in more regularly, Pat C said their visit had made her day, and Resident Ambassador Albert said he loved how much he had in common with them. In response, Paul remarked that the visits are also important to him and his team.
Once all the photos had been taken and goodbyes said, the engine glided out of the car park, with residents no doubt looking forward to the next (social) visit!
