Strawberry Tea Party

A traditional British tea party was the setting for the staff and residents of Rectory House care home in West Sussex recently.

Every year, the community organises a Strawberry Tea Party for the residents and this year, the celebrations were combined with the theme of the London Olympics.

Everyone from residents and staff to relatives and local people turned out to help make sure the event was a success.  Staff from Rectory House made seven journeys in the mini bus to ensure everyone was able to join in.  They also collected two local ladies who are otherwise housebound to make sure that no-one from the village was left out.

The day was filled with chatter, far too many strawberries and lots of cake.  Several of the residents were girl guides in their younger days so the local Reverend, Erika Howard led everyone in a sing-along of all the old songs they used to sing around the camp fire many years ago.

Everyone had a great afternoon and Reverend Howard told us:

‘It was a joy to have the residents with us.  It gave great pleasure to all who attended.’

The home manager, Jackie Cox added:

‘It is so important for the residents to keep in touch with the local community and for the local community to appreciate the part the residents play in their community.  We all had a fantastic day and we’re already looking forward to next year!’

Rectory House is a magnificent period house located in the attractive village of Sompting, West Sussex, which has been carefully and sympathetically converted into a wonderful care home with nursing.
