Mill House scoop the top Care Home Heroes Award

Health and Wellbeing Coordinator Paul Dixon based at Caring Homes’ Mill House in Chipping Campden, Gloucestershire is delighted to have scooped the overall title of ‘Unsung Heroes 2019’ following a competition run in association with leading care home magazine, Caring Times and Ontex.

Paul Dixon, health and wellbeing coordinator at Mill House in Chipping Campden in Gloucestershire, was nominated by Customer Relationship Manager Mel Wood and has worked at Mill House for just over 18 months.

Mel said: “Imagine being a resident in a care home and watching everyone else from your window building a snowman. But because of your care needs you are not able to leave your room and join in. Then imagine that Paul is your activities coordinator and suddenly YOU are involved, Because Paul brings buckets of snow into your bedroom, so you can touch and feel snow and make your own snowman from your bed. He doesn’t worry about the mess or the logistics, he only cares about making something happen because he knows the difference that it will make to YOUR day. Paul did that.”

Judges selected their winner based on the key criteria, being; “It is all about rewarding those individuals that have made a real impact on their particular place of work.”

Paul evidenced that criteria in spades and is a fantastic Wellbeing Coordinator who prioritises the care and engagement of his residents and goes above and beyond to provide creative, engaging and inclusive activities personalised to his residents’ individual needs.

Colleagues describe Paul as a person who delivers a 1st class service to the residents. Sharing, “He always goes above and beyond in understanding everyone’s needs and by ‘thinking outside the box’ to work with local communities and businesses he regularly exceeds expectations for all those that he engages with.”

Caring times state that there are over 18,000 care homes in the UK and Caring Homes, Mill House and Paul are delighted that the individual approach and out of the box thinking that is evident at Mill House on a daily basis has been recognised by the country’s leading care publication.
