‘Home from home’ East Hill House is shortlisted for national care award

East Hill House is proud to be shortlisted for Best Dementia Care Home in the National Dementia Care Awards 2017.

East Hill House care home in Liss, Hampshire provides residential and specialist dementia care for up to 32 elderly residents.

Residents have an active role in the day to day running of the home where the aim is to ensure a real home from home environment.

The home ensures residents are fully involved – from monthly meetings with the Manager, meeting with the Activities Coordinator to choose what activities and events are planned and discussing what is working – to giving the Gardener his weekly tasks that they consider to be the most important.

Inclusivity is a cornerstone of East Hill’s ethos. The team are passionate about spreading this ethos to the wider community by joining up with the people of Liss to make it more dementia friendly. Staff run monthly training sessions, which aim to increase the community’s understanding of dementia, and help them make the small changes to support dementia sufferers they come into contact with. Trainees include all staff at East Hill, relatives of residents, and residents of Liss. Training has even been delivered to the whole staff team at a local supermarket.

Care Home Manager Samantha Booty said;
“At East Hill House we provide a real home from home. Everything is done with the residents’ wellbeing in mind, our routine changes every day to meet the needs of the people who live here.

“We are proud to have a dedicated, hard-working, integrated team that utilises a broad range of skills and experience to deliver great care and provide a first class home. We are delighted to be shortlisted for this prestigious award.”

East Hill House is equipped to provide residential support for elderly people living with different types of dementia, including Alzheimer’s disease and vascular dementia. Dementia care provision has been designed to meet the University of Stirling’s universally respected dementia care standards.

The team is committed to providing continuity and stability for residents and is proud of the fact it has not used agency staff for the last eight years. This has made a huge contribution to the well-being of members of the East Hill community, with residents and their family members forming close and lasting bonds with the care team. At the most recent inspection, East Hill met all of the CQC’s standards with a Good overall rating.

Winners of the National Dementia Care Awards 2017 will be announced at a Gala Night at Doncaster Racecourse on November 9th after the UK Dementia Congress. The event will be hosted by John Middleton who won a multitude of praise for his portrayal of a person living with dementia in ITV’s Emmerdale.
