Heffle Court welcomes Gardening Girl Guides

A Heathfield care home was thrilled with the results of the local Girl Guides first community project this week.

The residents and staff at Heffle Court have watched on with intrigue as the seaside themed courtyard garden project has taken shape. The girls, aged 10-16, have been getting their hands dirty for several weeks to create a colourful and tidy area.

The group has been busy planning and making creative items to decorate the seaside themed courtyard garden for the purpose-built care home for elderly residents with dementia. Over the course of the last week guides and leaders have been coming along to Heffle Court to paint, whilst shells have been gathered to create the seaside setting. The residents have enjoyed getting to know the generous team throughout the work and this Wednesday (20th June) the Girl Guides spent the evening clearing, weeding, planting and finishing the project.

They all worked as a busy team with an interested audience watching from the window. Once finished, the Guides joined the residents for a traditional ice-cream cornet and a group sing along.

Debby Potter, Heffle Court Manager said:

“We are delighted with the results of the courtyard area, the Girl Guides have done a wonderful job and we are all so grateful. The residents will enjoy the themed courtyard area for a long time to come.”

Located in the East Sussex market town of Heathfield, Heffle Court is a purpose-built care home providing specialist care for 32 elderly residents living with a form of dementia.
