Elves become Friends in Deed at Ivy Court

Ivy Court residents in Norwich were visited by a group of very young elves and the ITV Anglia crew as part of the new ‘Little visitors project.’

The project established by Kelly Lindsay, a former teacher has been proving an overwhelming success with several residents, who after a number of visits now look forward to the companionship of several younger children, babies and their parents.

The most recent visit, just ahead of Christmas brought an extra special treat for everyone as residents and children exchanged gifts with one another, bringing tears to the eyes of some. Over 19 children with their parents, came dressed as elves and santas adding a very joyous feel to the experience.

As the children entered the room, residents brightened and engaged fully with the children, singing along to a few songs and chatting with them, some also enjoying cuddles. As relationships are building, the residents of Ivy Court are looking forward to the visits and feel a sense of community as many links are being discovered between local families, places people have lived and schools attended.

One young mother discovered the house in which she lives was occupied previously by a lady residing in Ivy Court and was keen to visit her with her baby and a Christmas gift. They shared knowledge of the house, its history and both were delighted to have met. It’s a beginning to what the young mum hope will be a positive friendship for both.

A father who decided to join his wife on the visit remarked what a wonderful project it was to bring people together in this way and said he couldn’t think of a nicer way to spend his day off. He had not visited a care home before and told us that his visit had changed his perception of care homes forever.

ITV were on hand to capture every moment, which added an extra touch of excitement to proceedings with residents feeling like stars for the morning. Filming for Anglia News they spent two hours with residents and children and on leaving having thoroughly enjoyed their time at the home, enquired if they could be booked in later on when they are in need of care.
