Beechwood go to see Dads Army

The residents at Beechwood visited the Macrobert Theatre this week to watch a dementia friendly screening of ‘Dads Army’.

We also met up with the residents from the Forth Bay nursing home, this happens on a regular basis and the activities coordinator Roseanne drives our minibus to get us all there safely. Meeting with the residents from other homes in the group is a great way for the residents to keep up friendships from outside Beechwood, and builds their confidence.

At the dementia friendly screenings they turn the volume down and turn the lights up slightly so members of the audience don’t get upset and confused . Being surrounded by a dark room, flashing lights and loud noises can be very disorientating so these special screenings are more enjoyable for the residents.

After the movie staff at the Macrobert asked the residents what they thought of the movie whilst they kindly provide tea and coffee. The resident’s reminisced about watching Dad’s Army years ago, the old story lines and characters in comparison to those in the film.

The residents and care team always thoroughly enjoy their trips to the Macrobert Theatre. Because we are such regular customer at the Macrobert, the staff at the regularly ask our care team to come up with ideas for what movies to show next, which is great for our residents.

We can’t wait for the next viewing!
