At Walstead Place Care Home, we have two lounges - one in the main house and the other is a smaller lounge, affectionally called ‘The Quiet Lounge’, situated at the back with stunning views of the gardens.
The ‘Quiet Lounge’ was beginning to look rather dated, so we decided to give it a makeover! We got some of the residents together – the regular users of the lounge on a Saturday morning for their scrabble club - and asked them what they would like if we were to give the lounge a much-needed lift. They came back with words like … bright, airy, new floor, different furniture, new table and chairs and one said what about a bar!
With that in mind, cogs started to turn, and we decided with the residents ‘’wish list’’ in mind to plan a whole new room. At first, we asked the residents if the colour yellow was bright enough and they were brave enough to say yes! So, we went with a muted yellow and new flooring, new sofas with recliner seats and a bar! Specially made for us from someone based in the local area.
One of the residents opened it officially last month and we had a little party and some pub games, it was a great afternoon,
It’s a modern but contemporary place where the residents can go and sit and listen to music, play their scrabble at the weekend, have a coffee or a drink when they want, just sit and watch Phil the pheasant walk across the garden and hopefully very soon entertain family and friends again.
As the residents had a hand in the whole process, they feel it’s a place made for them in mind and they are looking forward to spending time in there.
