Tropical Luau at Firtree House

Firtree House held an afternoon Tropical Luau, with live music from a steel drum band to help set the island scene.

The event was held on Tuesday 18 August and open to residents, staff, and their families. A BBQ serving tropical themed food, as well as a tiki bar serving up cool drinks and mocktails, were both available for attendees’ enjoyment.

The seaside was also transported to this usually landlocked care home, with a sandy beach and paddling pool delivered directly to the care home’s door. Of course no beach is complete without an ice cream stand to help the day-trippers cool down, and Firtree’s beach was no exception.

A spokesperson for Caring Homes said: ‘Everybody really enjoyed themselves at the event. There were steel drummers playing throughout the afternoon, the front car park was decorated in a tropical style and the potting shed was turned into a tiki hut!

‘There was even a small fake beach created with paddling pool and play sand, an ice cream cart and BBQ food. Relatives were very thankful and a really good day was had by all. Lots of people asked what the next themed event would be, which was lovely for us to hear.’

The residents wanted to ‘try something different’ so the bright colours, Caribbean holiday theme and fun-style music all contributed to the cheery atmosphere on the day – in contrast with the typical British summer weather!

Firtree House is a residential and nursing care home in Tunbridge Wells, Kent for up to 42 people. You can find out more about Firtree House here.
