‘The streets are paved with gold’ as Dick Whittington comes to Knowle Park

It was a case of “He’s behind you” and “Oh, yes she is!” for the residents, relatives and staff of Knowle Park with a wonderful production of Dick Whittington from the Gary Starr Touring Pantomime company over the Christmas period.

The story tells of Dick; a poor boy from Gloucestershire, who goes to London to seek his fortune where ‘the streets were paved with gold’. The music and costumes got the whole audience laughing and singing along. Knowle Park Head Chef Andy Beasley provided interval refreshments and a fish and chip supper afterwards which the residents and residents all thoroughly enjoyed.

Home Manager Athena Stevens said “All of our residents have been complimenting the production and the actors; they really enjoyed being able to get involved themselves and have an evening that was a little bit different. It was a lovely evening at the theatre in the comfort of our own home.

All of the residents were very engaged, there was a lot of laughter, singing along as well as the booing and cheering. Some residents who do not normally participate even joined in and had fun. It really felt as if we were at the theatre but without all the hassle involved with transport. We are already looking forward to the next performance!”
