Marcy’s Tearoom Opens With A Flourish At Benson House
Residents at Benson House Care Home were excited to attend the launch of their very own luxury tearoom as ‘Marcy’s’ was officially opened earlier this month.
A Touch of Class at Teatime
The idea for Marcy’s was conceived after feedback from residents who said how much they enjoyed afternoon tea but would love it to be more of an occasion – fancy crockery, cakes on stands and a touch of class. So, the team at Benson House Care Home in Wallingford devised a scheme for a retro-style ‘pop up’ which would be created in the residents’ lounge once a month.
Once the tearoom concept was ready to launch, it needed a name, and the overwhelming favourite was Marcy’s – a ‘hats off’ to Benson House’s popular Head Chef, Marcella.
The day of the grand opening arrived, and a special painted blackboard was revealed. Residents filed into the lounge enthusiastically, admiring the look and feel of the tearoom – a tribute to high end café style and an era when ladies in particular would meet friends to chat over tea and delicious cakes. A treat as well as a catch up!
Ribbon-Cutting for the Birthday Girl
By happy coincidence, resident Dorothy was celebrating her birthday on the same day, so who better to cut the bright pink ribbon and declare Marcy’s officially ‘open’!
A range of fabulous cakes was presented, with flavours including Coffee & Walnut, Strawberry & Vanilla and Double Chocolate, and tea was elegantly served in attractive vintage china. Residents were joined by families and friends, with everyone keen to sample the treats on offer. Best of all, the atmosphere was relaxed and convivial - a lovely sociable event and something for both residents and relatives to look forward to each month.
Teatime Treats Today, a Classic Pub Tomorrow!
Feedback was extremely positive all round, with one relative writing to say, “I just wanted to thank you again for a marvellous afternoon. I spoke to mum yesterday and she was really pleased. Everyone commented how nice the staff were, the cakes were amazing, and the room looked fantastic”.
It’s safe to say that everyone’s looking forward to the next ‘Marcy’s teatime extravaganza’, although watch this space – the team at Benson House has also devised a pub concept along similar lines after requests from its gentlemen residents, with a pub quiz, games and an ale or two being served in a specially decorated ‘pop up’ pub lounge. Whatever the setting, Benson House is fast becoming the hottest ticket in town for hospitality!
