Tarring Manor Officially Opened By Sir Peter Bottomley

13th March 2024

On Thursday 7th March, Tarring Manor Care Home in West Sussex was officially opened by Sir Peter Bottomley, MP for Worthing West, at a reception event.

Families, Friends and Neighbours Gather to Celebrate

Families of our residents joined neighbours and members of the local community to mark the occasion with the Tarring Manor team. The day had been sensationally sunny and in the late afternoon light, it was easy to see how the sense of ‘bringing the outside in’ works well at Tarring Manor. Tours were conducted around the home so that people could get a feel for the beautifully designed space and state-of-the-art facilities. They also met some of our residents who’ve been settling in nicely since the home first opened its doors last October.

Once all the guests had toured, mingled and enjoyed delicious canapes courtesy of Head Chef, Steve, and his team, everyone gathered in the second floor lounge. Home Manager, Karen Grainger, told the audience how proud she was of Tarring Manor, and shared some of Florence Nightingale’s tips for success, before thanking her colleagues and the wider team for their support.

A ‘Caring’ Home that’s Part of the Community

Sir Peter Bottomley paid tribute to Tarring Manor as a ‘caring home’ and highlighted how very much a part of the community it is. From the long ground floor lounge windows, you can see the wide open spaces of Tarring Park and Sir Peter said he’d noticed residents positioning their chairs to face outwards - towards the park – rather than inwards. This way, they can see children playing, year-round bird activity and dogs on their regular walks. Later on, a group of dog-walking neighbours told us they loved it when residents waved to them, and offered to bring the dogs into the home so that those craving contact with a four-legged friend could have some ‘canine time’.

Head of Operations, Julie Mason reiterated what Karen and Peter had said, proudly describing Tarring Manor as “a wonderful home - light, full of technology, which enables our residents to have the best possible quality of life and independence …. to enjoy and be happy”. Julie also stressed that “care is our priority, and we offer it with a sense fun and enjoyment, working as a partnership. We want a community within this building”. She then thanked everyone who lived locally for allowing Tarring Manor to be part of their community, saying what a privilege it is and that “we love every minute”!

A Busy Year Ahead for Tarring Manor

A plaque was officially unveiled by Sir Peter to cheers and applause, and guests left gradually, pronouncing the evening a huge success and very much in the spirit of the community.

Home Manager, Karen, sees Tarring Manor’s relationship with its neighbours and the communities in the village and nearby Worthing as something really special for the home. Alongside hosting a weekly Community Lunch for over-65s who may be feeling isolated or vulnerable, regular visits by local ‘blue watch’ teams, and activities sessions with local schools which start this month, there’s much more to come, including the Tarring Easter Egg Hunt and Bonnet Parade which will be held at Tarring Manor on Sunday 24th March.

With the home officially open, a strong, motivated team in place and opportunities for trained carers to join them as the home looks to extend its capacity, Tarring Manor is thriving: a happy, stylish home that’s luxurious, comfortable, and very much part of a vibrant and supportive local community.
