Performing dogs at Kippington

Last month the residents at Kippington in Sevenoaks, enjoyed a visit from performing dogs. Two Border Collies named ‘Swift and Nimbus’ showed us their obedience and cleverness in a short performance. After showing everyone a few tricks or two both dogs were keen to meet the residents who fussed over them.

Swift is seven years of age and is one of the senior members of the Performing Dogs troupe. She has exhibited at Crufts in the past and won a number of awards. Swift showed the residents at Kippington the reason as to why she had been involved in shows in the past, by demonstrating skills such as intelligence and obedience.

Nimbus is the younger of the two dogs and is very much still learning. He showed his own interpretation of the skills demonstrated by Swift and has developed a unique trotting action when moving beyond a walking pace, which is comparable with Viennese Dancing Horses.  Nimbus who is three has an unusual colouring for his breed which the residents recognised as a bluish-grey.

Both dogs were well admired by everybody at Kippington and praised as well as treated with small cocktail sausages. The residents thoroughly enjoyed the show and asked lots of appropriate questions relating to the dogs.

The idea behind the Performing Dogs is to create interactive, fun and joyous sessions which can improve the quality of life of individuals.  At Kippington we very much encourage and promote activities that keep the residents happy.

Kippington provides residential and nursing care in a beautiful converted Victorian building for up to 51 elderly people.
