Miller’s Ark Farm Animals visit Galsworthy House

Miller’s Ark Animals brought the sights, sounds and experiences of the farmyard to Galsworthy House this month when they arrived with their mobile farm. The mobile farm included sheep and lambs, goats and kids, piglets, miniature donkeys and ponies, rare breed poultry, ducks and geese, hen and chicks, and last but not, least a giant rabbit.

The young lady who brought the animals was so interesting and regaled the residents and guests with lots of interesting facts about the animals. All in all, thirteen of our residents and eight visitors attended this activity session and event.

This was a great afternoon to have them come to Galsworthy as it gave such a lot of pleasure not only to the residents but the team also. We were very lucky as it was a gloriously sunny afternoon so some of the residents that are able, could visit the animals outside in their pens in the fresh air and staff from Miller’s Ark Farm were on on hand to bring animals indoors to see residents in chairs or who are unable to get out of bed.

The aim of this activity was to allow the residents to experience close contact with the farm animals, thus inspiring interest and respect, whilst providing an exciting experience in the security of their own environment. The emphasis was on touching and feeding the animals to build confidence and awareness and interacting with the animals was such a rewarding and therapeutic experience. All the residents and guests all thoroughly enjoyed the experience and are eagerly awaiting the next visit.

The calm and extremely friendly animals provided a wonderful new experiences and valuable stimulation as stroking and interaction with the animals can bring a welcome break to daily routines but can also reduce anxiety, stress and feelings of isolation.

We look forward to welcoming Millers Ark Animals back again soon.
