Summer Fun in June at Garth House

At Garth House in Dorking Surrey, we had a very busy month of June with lots going on for our residents including a musical show, Queen’s birthday and our Summer Fete to name just a few.

Listed below is just an overview of some of the events and activities we participated in.

On 2nd June we staged a musical show called “Trains and Boats and Planes” where a pilot and a member of the cabin crew travel the world together, accompanied by songs like: “Chattanooga Choo Choo”, “Rock the Boat”, “Leaving on A Jet Plane”, “Summer Holiday” which was a terrific summer treat for everyone.

On 7th June we enjoyed a therapeutic musical session from Kiddleydivey by Linley. Their music sessions for the elderly are lively and stimulating, engaging the mind and body through specially developed programmes designed to connect people with the past and present. These have been developed in-house by a qualified music professional and doctor of musicolog. Linley’s warm and energetic personality even engaged the participation of a resident who doesn’t usually join in with activities.

On 9th June we celebrated the Queen’s birthday. Our residents enjoyed a nice meal and were entertained by singer Lauren who created a lovely party atmosphere. On 10th June we held the Summer party from 12-4pm for residents, staff, relatives and friends. Everyone enjoyed the barbecue, live music, magician Mark, brick-brack, tombola, raffle, jewellery-book-cake stall and also games for kids such as the hook duck race. Many wonderful prizes were won. On 16th June we participated in national Care Home Open Day. The front door was open to everyone so that people had a chance to get the information they needed and also an opportunity to see what nursing homes are all about. On 18th June we celebrated Fathers’ Day by having a Sunday roast dinner and then a party afterwards where we were entertained by singer David who helped make the day special for all the Dads.

On 24th June an informative talk was given by our regular entertainer Katie on the theme “British Summertime” using pictures, music and film clips that helped to stimulate the memories of our residents.

We’re looking forward to lots more going on in July, here at Garth House.

Coronavirus (COVID-19) Update
To Whom it may concern,

RE: A message from the CEO and Clinical Director

At Caring Homes we are following the latest Government advice and stopping visitors to all our homes, except for essential visits by healthcare professionals who will be required to adhere to strict protocols.

We understand that this may be very difficult for families but we are clear in our duty to ensure we protect the health, safety and wellbeing of our Residents and Colleagues as our top priority.

We want you to know that you can contact your loved ones through calls, emails, video and social media and we will support our Residents to view any messages you send over. We are confident that the teams in our homes are doing all they can to ensure that life remains as comfortable and sociable as possible. There will be a full programme of activities delivered by our in-house health and wellbeing teams.

We hope you will understand and support these actions and any further subsequent measures we might need to put in place.

Yours sincerely
