East Hill House roll out Dementia Friends Information Sessions

Staff at East Hill House care home have been working closely with Waitrose Petersfield to deliver the store’s first Dementia Friends Information Session.

The care home’s deputy manager, Rebecca Connolly, activities coordinator, Tracey Stokes and senior carer, Emma Bennett, delivered two training sessions at the branch, to give customer-facing staff a better understanding of Dementia and how to support those who suffer from it.

The Hillbrow Road home was chosen by Waitrose Petersfield earlier this year as one of its ‘Community Matters’ causes. East Hill residents were thrilled that local shoppers voted with their tokens, as they received a cheque for £544 towards their new dedicated dementia garden.

East Hill care home manager, Samantha Booty said:

“We are delighted that Waitrose has been so supportive and it was great that they invited us in to deliver some training which could help some of their shoppers in the future. We understand that the store will now have members of staff who will be Dementia Friends Champions.”

Branch Manager, Waitrose Petersfield, Alan Bassil said: “It’s really important to us that we support the local community in Petersfield and this has been a wonderful opportunity for our staff to develop their skills and also learn more about Dementia.”

Located in the village of Liss, East Hill House provides high quality residential and specialist dementia care for up to 35 elderly people in a unique setting. The home is run by the family-owned Caring Homes Group, which was founded in 1994 by mother and son team, Helena and Paul Jeffery.
