Coxhill Manor’s ‘Joyful’ Trip to Wisley Gardens

At the end of October, Coxhill Manor Activity Coordinators Julia and Sarah accompanied Joy Perkins and Joy Cheatle, two of our residents on a lovely day trip to Wisley Gardens in Surrey – a stunning RHS garden home to some of the largest plant collections in the world.

On arrival, the Wisley Buggy picked us up from reception and gave us a private leisurely tour of the beautiful gardens, which allowed our Joys to admire the beauty of the gardens in comfort. We stopped off at the ‘Taste of Autumn’ exhibition in the gardens where we took part in apple tasting and watched apples being pressed… and were lucky enough to sample the freshest apple juice we had ever tasted!

We visited the iconic Glasshouse, a cathedral like structure which provides the perfect environment to some beautiful and exotic plants. It was like walking into a jungle, and we spent a lot of time learning about the exotic plants and admiring the beauty. We were pretty mesmerised by the indoor waterfall too.

We had lunch at the Glasshouse café. (Never seen our two Joys eat so well… we must have worked up an appetite!). It was a lovely opportunity for the two Joys to get to know each other better as we all chatted over lunch. Joy Cheatle entertained us with stories from her days as a magistrate! It’s always a privilege for us at Coxhill to soak up the wisdom that comes with age. We could have stayed all day.

When asked what they enjoyed most about the day, both Joys agreed “it was being out in the fresh air” How lovely, and as we didn’t have time to do any shopping at the Wisley Shop – there’s only one thing for it – we have to go back.
