Coxhill Manor praised by CQC for exceptional manager and very caring team

Coxhill Manor care home in Chobham has been applauded for being ‘very, very kind and very caring’, and Home Manager Alan Horler described as ‘exceptional’ in the Care Quality Commission’s recently published inspection report. The home has been rated as providing a ‘good’ care service in all areas in its latest inspection.

Part of the Caring Homes Group, Coxhill Manor provides residential, nursing and specialist dementia care for up to 58 residents; it was given a ‘good’ overall rating by inspectors for providing a safe, effective, caring, responsive and well-led care service. Alan Horler has been manager for four years.

The CQC report praised Coxhill Manor in its overall summary, and noted:
‘People told us that they got on well with the staff. People and staff created a warm environment in which people felt comfortable. Interactions with people showed kindness and compassion. One person said, “They are very, very kind and very caring.”

The report continued: ‘The registered manager created an open culture in which staff could be included in decisions about the home. People were involved in important choices about where they lived. One person told us, “Frankly I don’t think anyone could do better [than the registered manager]. They’re exceptional.”
Another person said, “I believe [registered manager] runs this place extremely well”. ‘

To find out about people’s experience of living at Coxhill Manor, inspectors spoke with six residents and three relatives, sitting and engaging with them. They also observed how staff cared for people and worked together as a team, and spoke with six staff which included the registered manager and a visiting healthcare professional.

Alan Horler, Home Manager, says:
“We strive to give our residents the care and lifestyle they wish to have and involve them in every aspect of their care. We are all extremely happy at the praise we received from inspectors in the report following their visit to Coxhill Manor in October this year. All of our team members, residents and families work well together to support each other and it is very pleasing to see that our service has been rated as good by the CQC.”
