Bridge club at Home of Compassion

At the Home of Compassion in Thames Ditton we are lucky enough to have a chap who is keen to improve his bridge game staying with us at the moment.  Geoff is a friendly, sociable chap who engages with everyone at all levels.  When we mentioned we would welcome in folk from the outside world to join us for a game of bridge, Geoff took the bait and enlisted his daughter Helen in getting fellow bridge players of all levels to join the fray.  Geoff approached his local club who were providing lessons and there are now a core handful of repeat guests.

This has now become a regular fixture within our walls and we even have ex-respite residents joining us in the fun and games.

It is important for us all to remember that many elderly people in the community are nervous and shy when it comes to making new friends and can often feel isolated in their own homes, so extending the invite not only helps our residents expand their social circle, but also assists in alleviating loneliness in the community as well.  Our doors are always open to whoever wants to join in with us, our community links are vital to adding to the diversity of characters that are already living with us.  Also, this is a home, not an institution and we are keen for residents and families to invite whoever they would have invited into their own homes.  The more the merrier.

We are keen to hear from anyone else in the outside world who wants to join in for a game of bridge, so don’t be shy, we don’t bite.  All levels welcome.

Home of Compassion is dedicated to providing the highest level of residential, nursing and dementia care for up to 71 elderly residents. The luxurious care home is set in delightful surroundings in the heart of Thames Ditton, with beautiful views over the river.
