Miranda House celebrates the Queen’s 90th birthday in style

On Thursday 21st April, residents at Miranda House sang old songs, ate some delicious strawberries and cream and danced all afternoon to celebrate the Queen’s 90th birthday.

Resident’s family and friends joined in the party and the various discussions about the Royal family. There were lots of old pictures of the Queen and her family for all to see, which encouraged residents to share memories of different times in their own lives.

Everyone sang ‘Happy Birthday’ to the Queen and enjoyed singing old songs which residents, family and friends also enjoyed dancing to. “This was a wonderful event,” said Pat Shaw, Home Manager; “Our residents thoroughly enjoyed themselves, particularly the strawberries, cream and ice cream that were on offer! Celebrations like this are great for our residents as they are encouraged to share memories and to get up and dance too.”

Residents also enjoyed an ‘Oomph!’ session during the celebrations; inclusive exercises and activities that improve physical mobility, social interaction and mental stimulation. Oomph! sessions focus on familiar music, reminiscence-led imagery and sensory props which are particularly effective for people with dementia. Family and friends were encouraged to join in too!

Miranda House provides specialist nursing and dementia care support for up to 65 elderly residents in the heart of the historic Wiltshire town of Royal Wootton Bassett.
