Bradbury House on Ice

A daring group of Braintree care home residents got their skates on this week and took to an ice rink for the very first time.

The four Bradbury House residents, ranging from 86 to 99 years old, had wanted to experience the thrill of ice-skating and the staff at Bradbury House found the perfect solution with the ‘skate plates’ able to accommodate wheelchairs at Chelmsford Ice Rink.

At 99, Diana Morgan enjoyed the experience, but was heard to say ‘Come on, let’s go faster!’ Ms. Morgan was joined on the ice by fellow residents Joyce Brewster (90) Pat Davenport (86) and Tom Chappell (87) who all had a wonderful time. They are now thinking of what they can try to top ice-skating.

Bradbury House manager Nikki Leaney said:

‘We try to provide a wide variety of activities for our residents, even to accommodate the more daring requests. I hope I am still finding new things to try when I get to 99!’

Bradbury House is run by family-owned Caring Homes Group, which was founded in 1994 by mother and son team, Helena and Paul Jeffery. The home provides residential support for up to 21 people in the historic town of Braintree.
