Wytham House get all arty and crafty

For Wytham House residents, we regularly get arty and crafty in our regular arts session at our home in Farmoor, Oxfordshire, where they can unleash their creative talents and make something whilst enjoying a sociable and fun activity.

To keep these sessions fresh and interesting for our residents we try to use different mediums and / or techniques which can range from painting, collaging to tile painting to name just a few. Sometimes it may even just be themed for the time of year so we are looking forward to producing some Spring and Easter related material soon.

Finding enjoyable yet also stimulating crafts for all of our residents to enjoy can require a little bit of extra thought from our activities team so as to keep everyone engaged and also for them to want to be involved too. At Wytham House, we modify our arts and crafts sessions to the needs of our residents so they are inclusive for all.  Some may need more assistance than our more independent residents and their abilities and dexterity may differ too. After all, we want as many of our residents to participate as possible and to get together and enjoy being in a social and group setting.

We also try to incorporate past hobbies wherever possible so that for some of our residents they maintain that interest and which can bring back many happy memories they have. For some, they get the opportunity to try something new.

Arts and crafts is a popular pastime for our residents and team here at Wytham House and our residents enjoy the social aspect along with the sense of achievement of making something. For all our team here, there is the opportunity to get involved too and you sometimes another member of our team joining in. For example our lovely cleaner Jess is pictured here helping one of our residents Cynthia in a recent arts and crafts session.

And that’s not all, what activity would not be complete without refreshments and we often accompany our sessions with a nice cup of tea and a slice of cake.

At Wytham House we are dedicated to providing dignified and respectful residential and nursing dementia care for up to 40 elderly residents.
