Walking in a Winter Wonderland for Mill House Residents

Residents from Mill House Care Home in Chipping Campden were thrilled to experience walking in a winter wonderland when they visited Stratford Garden Centre for a special visit to celebrate Saint Nicholas’ Day.

Dominika, Activity Coordinator, Kayleigh Crawley, Carer and Maciek, Maintenance Man and Driver took the residents to celebrate this feast day on the 6th of December, which is mostly celebrated on this date in Northern Europe (but also on December 5th as well as 19th elsewhere), and Dominika thought that is was a perfect day to take everyone for a trip out.

The residents were amazed at how magical the place looked and the effort the garden centre went to make such a  stunning scene; there were also lovely decorations which moved and the big Christmas tree was animated and talked and sang! Not only that, we were amazed to discover a tropical fish shop on the site with some beautiful and amazing looking fish. One of our residents was heard commenting, “it felt like we were in a Zoo or Aquarium for a moment.”

Some of the ladies could not resist a little retail therapy and some shopping to buy the rest of their Christmas presents for family and friends. Then we made time for some refreshments of a nice cup of tea, cake and biscuits.

Dominika entertained everyone by telling the story about Saint Nicholas’ Day Celebrations to the residents when they were having teas and coffees in the café, which made this trip to the garden centre even more enchanting. Celebrations of Saint Nicholas’ Day include gifts left in children’s shoes. Children put a shoe outside their bedroom doors or in front of the fire place on the eve of Saint Nicholas’ Day, and hope to find candy, coins and maybe a small gift in them when they awake.

Finally it was time to go back home and we took the opportunity to have one last look at all the shining lights and decorations outside the garden centre from the mini bus. All in all, everyone enjoyed the trip and to the strain of that old favourite carol, the snow was glistening, such a beautiful sight, they were happy that night, from walking in a winter wonderland.

Coronavirus (COVID-19) Update
To Whom it may concern,

RE: A message from the CEO and Clinical Director

At Caring Homes we are following the latest Government advice and stopping visitors to all our homes, except for essential visits by healthcare professionals who will be required to adhere to strict protocols.

We understand that this may be very difficult for families but we are clear in our duty to ensure we protect the health, safety and wellbeing of our Residents and Colleagues as our top priority.

We want you to know that you can contact your loved ones through calls, emails, video and social media and we will support our Residents to view any messages you send over. We are confident that the teams in our homes are doing all they can to ensure that life remains as comfortable and sociable as possible. There will be a full programme of activities delivered by our in-house health and wellbeing teams.

We hope you will understand and support these actions and any further subsequent measures we might need to put in place.

Yours sincerely
