Walstead Place praised by CQC for kind and compassionate care

Walstead Place care home, in Haywards Heath, has been praised in its latest Care Quality Commission (CQC) report for having a ‘perfect’ care team.

The care home was rated as Good in each of the five inspection categories – safe, effective, caring, responsive and well-led – during the latest inspection. It is the second time running the home has received the Good overall rating.

Residents told the Care Quality Commission (CQC) inspectors they were happy with the care they received. Staff understood and respected people’s right to make decisions about their own care and support.

One said; “If you ring your bell they come very quickly.” Another added; “They will do anything for you – you only have to ask.” A third said; “The nicest thing for me is that they sit and talk to me at night. Every member of staff is perfect in the way they care for us.”

Inspectors observed the team at Walstead Place treating residents with respect and maintaining privacy and dignity at all times. Residents received care that was appropriate to their needs and information was available on each person’s physical, mental, social and spiritual preferences.

Jacqueline was praised by the CQC for her person-centred approach to care and her excellent management of the service. Caring Homes won the LaingBuisson personalisation award for 2017 for making residents feel valued, respected and well cared for.

At Walstead Place residents are encouraged to be as independent as possible. One resident said; “They try to help us to be independent. I am able to do things for myself but know the staff are there if I need any help.”
