care home, in Haywards Heath, has been praised in its latest Care Quality Commission (CQC) report for having a ‘perfect’ care team.The care home was rated as Good in each of the five inspection categories - safe, effective, caring, responsive and well-led – during the latest inspection. It is the second time running the home has received the Good overall rating.Residents told the Care Quality Commission (CQC) inspectors they were happy with the care they received. Staff understood and respected people’s right to make decisions about their own care and support.One said; “If you ring your bell they come very quickly.” Another added; “They will do anything for you – you only have to ask.” A third said; “The nicest thing for me is that they sit and talk to me at night. Every member of staff is perfect in the way they care for us.”Inspectors observed the team at Walstead Place treating residents with respect and maintaining privacy and dignity at all times. Residents received care that was appropriate to their needs and information was available on each person’s physical, mental, social and spiritual preferences.Part of the Caring Homes Group, Walstead Place Care Home in Haywards Heath is a magnificent 19th century country squire’s residence, providing residential care for up to 43 elderly residents. The home is located in the hamlet of Walstead, just a mile from Lindfield.Residents told the CQC inspectors they enjoyed the meals provided at Walstead Place. One person said: “I love the food and the choices too.” Meal options offer a healthy and balanced diet and cater for individual preferences.The care team were seen to know their residents well. One relative said; “Family members can go home with peace of mind. Staff are very good at what they do.”
The care team was seen to be made up of well trained and skilled staff. There are named staff champions for safeguarding, hydration and dignity to ensure the safety of the residents and their wellbeing.Jacqueline Ferguson, Home Manager, said: “At Caring Homes we want to ensure that our home is just that – a caring home. We are all extremely happy that the CQC inspectors have given us a Good rating in every category for the second time.”Jacqueline was praised by the CQC for her person-centred approach to care and her excellent management of the service. Caring Homes won the LaingBuisson personalisation award for 2017 for making residents feel valued, respected and well cared for.At Walstead Place residents are encouraged to be as independent as possible. One resident said; “They try to help us to be independent. I am able to do things for myself but know the staff are there if I need any help.”Daily activities provide mental stimulation and social interaction. Residents told the CQC they enjoyed the range available and could decide which things they wanted to attend.To find out about life at Walstead Place the inspectors spoke with 18 residents and nine relatives as well as nine members of care staff, a housekeeper, hairdresser, gardener, kitchen assistant and a visiting professional.
