Update on Forth Bay Care Home

Following the fire last year, our first priority was the safe relocation of residents to other suitable homes in the area. Once that had been completed we worked with a number of stakeholders to implement a comprehensive rebuild and refurbishment programme.

We are pleased now to be able to share the plans which are subject to planning approval which show our intention to refurbish the North Wing of Forth Bay and rebuild the South Wing.

We want to make something really positive come out of the events of last year, so we have brought forward plans to improve and expand provision at Forth Bay. Whilst the new build element is currently subject to planning, dedicated improvements are planned to include the installation of circa 29 wireless access points across Forth Bay to facilitate Wi-Fi throughout the home. Our aim is to provide Forth Bay’s staff and residents with internet access in all areas. It is also hoped that this new IT infrastructure will enable us to use the latest technology, including a new nurse call system, to further assist us in our provision of person-centred care for residents. Amongst other improvements residents will benefit from modern new servery areas, the installation of the latest assisted baths on each floor, and general upgrades to bath/wet rooms with the addition of new flooring and furnishings throughout.

Refurbishment works are about to get underway and once complete and approved by the Scottish Care Inspectorate, it is hoped that residents will move back into Forth Bay in early May 2018. For the area subject to the planning application, the South Wing, we hope residents will begin moving back during the spring of 2019.

In partnership with Architects Oliver and Robb, and Orchards for all refurbishments it is hoped we will soon be ready to begin work on the new build and will provide updates as we progress.

Throughout this time we have been immensely grateful for the many messages of support received from neighbours and well-wishers in the community, and we would like to extend our thanks again to everyone who has been so helpful.
