Upcycling creations at Wytham House

Wytham House Care Home in Farmoor have some amazing team members, and this week we would like to celebrate Caroline, a valuable member of our housekeeping team.

Caroline came up with an innovative way to re-invent our frayed and disheveled towels which we would otherwise have thrown away. She is very creative and enjoys crafts, knitting and sewing in her spare time. When Caroline came to me with this idea I fully embraced it.

Caroline explained, “I was considering what to do with the old worn out bath/ hand towels and decided to make some face flannels. When finished I still had a considerable amount left over, so when my daughter said about the excess use of conti wipe usage, I thought making wash mitts might help to reduce excess waste and improve our budget. I approached my Manager, Amanda, who thought it was a great idea, so I made these with the remaining worn towels.”

Amanda said, “Caroline has done this all in her spare time. This has proved very successful, our Operation’s Director thinks this is wonderful, praising Caroline personally.  Not only has it reduced our budget, but we have managed to be eco-friendly, it has given the residents more independence to assist in their own personal care as well as adding quality to their experience (much nicer to wash with a flannel than disposable wipes).”

Very well done Caroline.

Coronavirus (COVID-19) Update
To Whom it may concern,

RE: A message from the CEO and Clinical Director

At Caring Homes we are following the latest Government advice and stopping visitors to all our homes, except for essential visits by healthcare professionals who will be required to adhere to strict protocols.

We understand that this may be very difficult for families but we are clear in our duty to ensure we protect the health, safety and wellbeing of our Residents and Colleagues as our top priority.

We want you to know that you can contact your loved ones through calls, emails, video and social media and we will support our Residents to view any messages you send over. We are confident that the teams in our homes are doing all they can to ensure that life remains as comfortable and sociable as possible. There will be a full programme of activities delivered by our in-house health and wellbeing teams.

We hope you will understand and support these actions and any further subsequent measures we might need to put in place.

Yours sincerely
