Trip week at Magna

The residents at Magna care home with nursing in Wimborne enjoyed a week of trips out last week.

The first trip was to Sandbanks with a few of the residents and family members, they spent the day on Sandbanks Beach watching the passing Sandbanks Chain Ferry , which shuttles between Sandbanks and Studland crossing at the mouth of Poole harbour. The beach itself was beautiful with fine golden sand clean water, the day was beautiful and we enjoyed the cool breeze across the sands. To finish the day we enjoyed an ice cream and drink the beach cafe.

Golden Acres garden centre was the next trip on the list for the week. Residents Ivy, Jean and Kathy thoroughly enjoyed perusing the beautiful plants and flowers, taking in the smells and colours. We are lucky at Magna as we have some wonderful foliage with bright colours bringing the Mediterranean to us, but seeing other flowers and plants gives us all ideas for the gardens and our own patio areas. It created much discussion about he flowers we could plant over the summer season. To complete the trip we went to the gift shop and all enjoyed a cuppa and cake outside in the sunshine.

We had a lovely day out at the Bovington Tank Museum with just two residents, Doris and Tony, as it was a long journey and long day.  The exhibitions at the museum tell the story of armoured warfare from World War One to the present day. There were six large halls with over 300 vehicles that have seen action in all the major wars of the 20th Century including the world’s first ever tank – Little Willie, the feared German Tiger tank and the modern Challenger 2. We also heard first-hand accounts from those who fought in them.

They both enjoyed themselves and Tony said it as the best day out for years. Doris’s son John came with us as he was visiting. We all had a lovely lunch in the cafe there. Hopefully we can bring more residents back in the future.

Our trip to the local park/boating lake was not quite so warm but we all managed to enjoy ourselves feeding ducks, geese and swans then we went into a lovely cafe to warm up with hot chocolates and then back to the Magna in time for lunch.

The Magna nursing home in Wimborne is a stunning Care Centre providing residential and specialist nursing care for up to 63 elderly residents.
