That Friday Feeling… at Coxhill Manor

A typical Friday at Coxhill Manor Nursing Home in Chobham is never dull. This week we kicked off with our own version of the game show Countdown in the conservatory.  We have our regular residents who never miss a game and its very rare we are beaten by the ‘Countdown solver’ website!

We always have a good laugh during the game as we discover words we’ve never heard of. Did you know a Howlet is an owl or owlet, and an Aureus is an old roman coin?

One of our residents, Philip always declares at the beginning that he’s not very good at the letters game and yet always gets a good 7 or 8 letter word and the conundrum!  Resident Sheelagh often prepares conundrums for us all – this week’s was a blinder ….  “WELCHARTE”  (answer at the end!).

The numbers game will often see our Manager Alan joining in and colleagues will stop by and interject.  It can be quite addictive and gets very competitive.

Meanwhile guest pianist Laurence Dearling entertained residents upstairs in the Clocktower lounge area. It was a fun interactive hour with lots of singing along, chatting and laughter.  He even made a song up on the spot for Sandra our Head of Activities.  Bought a tear to her eye!

After lunch we set up a regular manicure station in the conservatory where residents can just drop in and get a quick manicure or hand massage and enjoy each others company in a small intimate group while getting pampered. Sometimes we will put photos we have taken on the big screen as a back drop for all to see.

The afternoon saw a ‘Name that Tune’ session  in the conservatory ran by our Activities Coordinator Sarah Lilburn.  Each song and singer will often trigger memories and discussions and a good old reminisce.

Sarah then ran an exercise session (by demand!) with a few residents who enjoy small group quality exercise. Sarah is a qualified exercise teacher so she certainly gets her group working well.

In the background, residents were visited in their own rooms too – be it just a chat, a massage or other sensory activity….  We had 2 lovely girls on  work experience from a local college who were a great asset and built some lovely relationships with our residents (and took some brilliant photos too!).

As we said, its never dull here and we’re looking forward to more happening this week.
