The care team at Abbeycrest Nursing Home in Sonning Common, are always pleased to receive great feedback and praise regarding their hard work and dedication as we take great pride in ensuring we deliver safe, high quality care.

The comments we receive mean a lot to everyone here as we always welcome the opportunity to review and improve upon what we offer. Reading lovely testimonials from our residents, families and friends is what makes it all worthwhile and we are sharing some of their comments here, with many thanks for their support.

Our family would like to thank you and all the staff at Abbeycrest for the excellent care that Kathleen received during her stay of nearly 4 years.

When our mother first moved to Abbeycrest she was very frail, having just come out of hospital after a broken hip and having left a previous care home where she was sometimes ill and agitated – so we were very pleased when a room at Abbeycrest soon become available.

Our mother’s dementia was well advanced and it shouldn’t be possible to ‘get better’ from such a condition, but when she arrived at Abbeycrest, she did improve – her physical condition got better, she put on weight, experienced good health and some better quality of life, and became less agitated and more content. That is not to say she couldn’t give her carers the occasional sharp word, but they always responded with professionalism, calmness and patience. 

We appreciated that a strong bond developed between our mother and her carers as her condition deteriorated. Abbeycrest staff were always ready and ahead of the game to respond appropriately as her needs became greater. Her physical health and comfort were maintained throughout. 

It meant a lot to us that her dignity was always respected. She was always clean, tidy, hair-brushed, nails trim and dressed in matching clothes. She always took great pride in her appearance so that would have been very important to our mother.

The adaptation of her care to her declining condition extended even to the professional and caring management of her death, which was peaceful. During her, thankfully very short, final illness staff both involved and supported the family and we appreciated that greatly.

The service Abbeycrest gives is second to none and no nursing home could have been better or have done more; in our view your rating as a care home should be excellent, rather than good.

Please relay our grateful thanks to all the staff for their care and attention, especially those in Shiplake who cared so well for our mother on a daily basis.

RE: A message from the CEO and Clinical Director

At Caring Homes we are following the latest Government advice and stopping visitors to all our homes, except for essential visits by healthcare professionals who will be required to adhere to strict protocols.

We understand that this may be very difficult for families but we are clear in our duty to ensure we protect the health, safety and wellbeing of our Residents and Colleagues as our top priority.

We want you to know that you can contact your loved ones through calls, emails, video and social media and we will support our Residents to view any messages you send over. We are confident that the teams in our homes are doing all they can to ensure that life remains as comfortable and sociable as possible. There will be a full programme of activities delivered by our in-house health and wellbeing teams.

We hope you will understand and support these actions and any further subsequent measures we might need to put in place.
