Sunningdale Chef Wins Prestigious National Award

Sunningdale’s Dormy House Care Home is celebrating, after home chef Robert Renshaw scooped the Chef of the Year prize at the annual Caring Homes Winning Together Awards at the Marriott Hotel in Mayfair, London.

The Awards were hosted by Strictly Come Dancing star Chris Hollins. Over 250 guests enjoyed a delicious three course meal, as well as a live band. Everyone agreed the awards were a great way to reflect on the excellent work that people have been doing across the Caring Homes family in 2011.

Robert has been the Chef at Dormy for the past 18 months. Before joining the Dormy House team, Robert was a caterer in the army and once cooked for the Earl of Spencer. Robert and his team have introduced new and exciting elements to the menu, including a delicious dessert trolley and monthly regular meetings with residents to learn about their favourite foods.

Sian Davis, the Home Manager, says that Robert has transformed the home and the lives of many residents. He works closely with home staff to develop meals tailored for each resident. An example of this is the finger food menu he has created for residents living with dementia. Robert’s passion for food is visible in the unique birthday cakes he makes for everyone at Dormy House, that are a firm favourite with residents.

The Winning Together Awards are now in their fourth year and provide an opportunity to celebrate the fantastic standard of care and support delivered across the organisation.

Dormy House provides residential, nursing and specialist dementia care for up to 88 elderly people. The home is run by the family-owned Caring Homes Healthcare Group. Mother and son team Helena and Paul Jeffery founded Caring Homes in 1994 and the Group has grown to become a leading independent care provider in the UK.

Robert Renshaw said:

“I am so happy to have won the Chef of the Year Award. I’m delighted to receive an award for a job I love doing."

“2011 was a great year for Dormy House with so many new activities and schemes. I would like to thank my fantastic colleagues for their constant efforts to deliver the highest standards of care for all our residents.”

Emma Charlton, Marketing Director of Caring Homes said:

“I want to congratulate Robert.  Everyone at Caring Homes is so proud of his hard work and well deserved achievement.

“At Caring Homes we are passionate about providing the highest standards of care, and we believe that it is vital to celebrate the wonderful achievements of our staff that make this possible.”
