St Andrew’s Day celebrations at Tall Trees

Today we celebrated St. Andrew’s Day at Tall Trees in Shipton-under-Wychwood. St Andrew’s Day is the feast day of Saint Andrew, Patron Saint of Scotland and is celebrated by Scots around the world on the 30th November. St. Andrew’s Day is also Scotland’s official national day.

So at Tall Trees, as some of our residents have links with Scotland and to help them celebrate Scotland’s national day, we gathered together for an afternoon ‘Cheese and Wine Tea Party’ and entertained our residents with Scottish music. Our Scottish residents regaled everyone with memories of previous celebrations they attended. We also learnt that St Andrew is not just the patron saint of Scotland but also Greece, Russia, Italy’s Amalfi, Cyprus, Romania, Barbados and Tenerife to name just a few.

Everybody had a lovely time. Moira, one of our residents said:
“I was born in Scotland and my mother was Scottish.  This is a lovely and unexpected surprise. Thank you very much.”

Then Sheina, another Scottish resident tried to remember the Scottish dancing steps, helped by another resident. They were all singing along and having a great time.

Roxana Scrobanet, Activities Coordinator said:
“At Tall Trees it is very important for us to respect and encourage our residents’ traditions where possible and we knew a day of importance, such as this for our Scottish residents, was worthy of a celebration. Our residents who would not have normally celebrated this occasion were delighted to be invited, join in with all the fun and were very glad to be part of this event.”
