Scoonie take a trip to Lochore Meadows

Residents from Scoonie House in Fife, took a trip to Lochore Meadows one afternoon this month.

We had an enjoyable bus trip to Lochore Meadows which brought giggles and laughter with a good old sing song on the way there. The meadow is situated in the heart of Fife, Lochore Meadows is a great place to visit with a wide range of leisure and recreational activities.

Most of the park is suitable for wheelchairs so we were able to make the most of the meadows. Within the park there is a variety of habitats such as wildflower meadows, park land and ancient woodlands. The loch is at the centre of the meadow, where we enjoyed a walk, watching the wildlife and people fishing and playing.

The park centre, next to the loch, houses the Lochside Café and a shop where we all enjoyed a tasty ice cream. We also had a look through the visitor information to find out about the local wildlife for a little quiz in the bus on the way back.

For most people, the best place to be is outside, enjoying and exploring nature. Outdoor and nature-based activities appeal to many people and will help those living with dementia, and those that aren’t, both emotionally and physically. A day out is great for everyone, providing new scenery and a breath of fresh air.

Scoonie House provides specialist residential and dementia care in a converted Victorian home for up to 36 elderly people.
