Rendlesham Care Centre are praised for being wonderful by CQC

Rendlesham Care Centre, in Woodbridge, Suffolk, has been praised in its latest Care Quality Commission (CQC) report for being wonderful.

The care home was rated as Good in each of the five inspection categories – safe, effective, caring, responsive and well-led – during the latest inspection. Residents told the Care Quality Commission (CQC) inspectors they were happy with the care they received. People and their relatives were involved in making decisions about their care and these were respected.

One person’s relative said; “I can relax knowing that my relative is being looked after and cared for so well.”

A resident added; “Oh things are wonderful here, so kind, they make me happy, exceptionally kind.” Another told us, “The staff make me laugh, if they keep that up that’s all I need.”

“I can’t say enough, they, the staff, are wonderful people, there’s nothing I would want to change at all, the nurses in particular treat people like their sibling.” Another commented, “The staff are caring, compassionate, have a sense of humour, hardworking and dedicated, cheerful and positive, very professional.”

Inspectors observed the team at Rendlesham Care Centre treating residents with respect and maintaining privacy and dignity at all times. People were supported to have maximum choice and control of their lives and were provided with the opportunity to participate in meaningful activities.

CQC saw cards and letters received by the service from people’s relatives thanking the staff for the care provided to their relatives. One stated, “We cannot put into words to thank you all enough for the way you cared and showed such love and compassion to our relative.”

They received positive feedback from two social care professionals about the care and support provided by the service to people. This feedback talked about the tailor made care that people were provided to meet with their assessed and diverse needs.

They noted that the service provided an open culture. People were asked for their views about the service and these were used to improve the service.

Ruth Halls, Rendlesham Care Centre’s Manager, said: “At Caring Homes we want to ensure that our home is just that – a caring home. We are all extremely happy that the CQC inspectors have given us a Good rating in every category.”

Ruth was praised by the CQC for her person-centred approach to care and her excellent management of the service. Caring Homes won the LaingBuisson personalisation award for 2017 for making residents feel valued, respected and well cared for. Ruth was also awarded Manager of the Year at Caring Homes Group 2016 Awards and one of Rendlesham’s Carers was also recognised as ‘National Carer of the Year’ at the most prestigious awards in the care sector last year.

Daily activities provide mental stimulation and social interaction. Residents told the CQC they enjoyed the range available and could decide which things they wanted to attend.

To find out about life at Rendlesham Care Centre the inspectors spoke with nine residents and seven relatives as well as twelve members of care staff, the registered manager, a regional manager and a peripatetic manager. The inspectors looked at records relating to the management of the service, recruitment files, training, and systems for monitoring the quality of the service.
