Phil the ‘Pearly’ singer entertains Abbeycrest

The residents of Abbeycrest were treated to a musical feast recently when they played host to Phil the ‘Pearly’ singer. ‘Pearlies’ originated in the 19th century, when orphan street sweeper Henry Croft adapted the decorative style of trousers worn by street traders into a pearly suit to draw attention to himself and aid his charity fund-raising activities. Abbeycrest’s own ‘Pearly’ sang a host of old time songs, entertaining the staff and residents with his cheeky cockney style. Located in the quiet village of Sonning Common, Abbeycrest offers exceptional residential, nursing and dementia care in the heart of the Chilterns.
