October festivities at Marchglen

At Marchglen in Alloa, the residents love a trip out and activities in the home, especially if it is celebrating a special occasion!

The residents enjoyed a number of activities throughout the month, activities coordinator Rhianan arranges different activities every week in the home, based on likes and dislikes of the residents. Rhianan makes sure the residents are actively involved in ideas, this month one of the chosen activities they enjoyed was the Marchglen Chip Shop.

Cathy Struthers came in to entertain the residents singing a variety of songs from all eras, 50’s right through to the 00’s which really suits the residents. Cathy also sings Scottish music which the residents absolutely love, and really join in with. She is a regular favourite at Marchglen, Patrick who can be seen in the photo with Staff Nurse Kirsten, does not usually stay at activities due to noise but he really does enjoy a performance from Cathy.

Jack High is one of our most popular entertainers, he is the residents no.1 performer at Marchglen. Jack sings songs from the 50’s/ 60’s right through to music out now such as Ed Sheeran and Bruno Mars. He never fails to get the residents on the mic for a bit of karaoke and gets the care team up dancing to the cha cha slide or the Superman song!

All the residents and care team had a ball at Marchglens Spooktacular Halloween Party. Resident Erica won “best costume” dressing up as a witch, but it was difficult choosing a winner as everyone looked amazing. The residents and care team all enjoyed a range of activities at the Halloween party from a disco/ karaoke to dooking for apples. Our residents had a fantastic time and thoroughly enjoyed this party.  The entertainer has been here once before and he left that much of a positive feeling with residents, as well as the care team, we decided to bring him back in. He is also booked for our Christmas Party at Marchglen!

Marchglen provides nursing care in a purpose built environment for up to 36 people in four small homes within the grounds. Each home provides different types of care and support including physical disabilities, learning disabilities and challenging behaviours in both young adults and elderly.
