Oaken Holt supporting Nutrition and Hydration Week 2018

Oaken Holt nursing and care home in Farmoor, Oxfordshire are proud to be supporting Nutrition and Hydration Week which starts on Monday 12th March. This initiative aims to highlight, promote and celebrate improvements in the provision of nutrition and hydration locally, nationally and globally.

As part of the Nutrition and Hydration Week, Oaken Holt will be running a series of fun themes and events organised by our Home Manager and Activities Coordinators, to highlight the importance of nutrition and hydration for our residents and team. Here’s a taster of just some of the things we’ll be getting up to…

Monday 12th March – Mocktail Party & Popcorn Bar

Tuesday 13th March – Hydration Station & Chocolate Tasting

Wednesday 14th March – Beer from around the World & Home Made Cookies

Thursday 15th March – Flavoured Water Day &  Magical Cream Tea Party

Friday 16th March – Wine Tasting & Old Fashioned Sweets

and lots more….

At Oaken Holt, ensuring every resident receives the best possible care is our top priority. We understand the importance of good nutrition and hydration and recognise they are fundamental human needs. When people are ill, old or vulnerable, nutrition becomes even more important to us in managing their care and to ensure that they have the best chance of recovery and rehabilitation.

Research from the British Nutrition Foundation also shows that older people are vulnerable to dehydration due to physiological changes in the ageing process. This can be complicated by many conditions plus both mental and physical frailty can further increase the risk of dehydration.

Our team at Oaken Holt work together with each resident and creates a personal care/support plan enabling them to have choice and control over their own nutritional care and fluid needs, they are flexible, centred on their needs and available 24 hours a day, every day.
