Oaken Holt Residents Join ‘The Monday Club’

8th July 2022

Oaken Holt Care Home has been making some friends in the local community. Customer Relations Advisor, George King organised for several of our residents to join in with the fun and games at the Eynsham Day Centre – Monday Club.

The Monday Club is open to any member of the community aged over 60 who enjoys plenty of fun and good company. The day can be as relaxed as you wish. After tea and biscuits, there are various morning activities including gentle exercises, fun games, arts & crafts, knitting and scrabble.

On their first visit to The Monday Club, our residents were entertained by two Welsh ponies that came into the hall. Animal-assisted therapy is a growing area that uses all types of animals to help people recover or cope better with health problems. It has been proven that contact with animals can help depression, loneliness, boredom and anxiety. It can also aid in recovery, rehabilitation and help improve mental health and wellbeing.

The Eynsham Day Centre Monday Club also welcomed a live entertainer. Music lifts the spirits and brightens everyone's mood. Music can also transport you back to another time and place and can have a hugely beneficial effect on our residents. All who joined The Monday Club had a fantastic time, and Dawn Walker, the club's manager, expressed delight later that "the day had gone superbly well and we can't wait to see you back next week."
