Multicultural day at Hulcott

Daisy, Beatrice and Fathimath dressed well in their traditional outfits for Hulcott Nursing Home in Aylesbury’s first first multicultural day. They danced for the residents and sang along to our traditional Old Time Music Hall singalong.

The day was filled with laughter, stories and traditional sayings and lots of music for our residents whilst everyone enjoyed traditional sweets from Bulgaria, Croissants from Romania and Rock from Southend on Sea to name just a few of the items on our table display for everyone to try.

Beatrice, one of our senior carers who has been at Hulcott for eight years, had made some of her traditional African food for us all to try.  She had made Chapati from wheat flour, Ugali from Maize mill, Sukuma wiki from Kale and Kitoyeyo which is equivalent to UK stew.  The food was very tasty and delicious and it was great to try.

Beatrice’s traditional dress, as you can see, was in vibrant shades of blue coupled with beaded necklace and matching headdress, even her sandals were made of made of blue beads.  Beatrice said she would wear this outfit for community occasions when her friends and family would also dress traditionally.

Hulcott Nursing Home provides the highest standards of specialist nursing and residential care for up to 38 elderly people.
