Mr Kipling the Miniature Donkey visits Coxhill Manor!

October was bought to a close here at Coxhill Manor with a visit from a very much loved miniature donkey called Mr Kipling.

Mr Kipling is part of the Miniature Therapy Horse Team in Surrey, and was accompanied by his owner Caroline.

An eager welcoming committee greeted Mr Kipling in the conservatory at Coxhill Manor, where he received bundles of grooming and petting. In return Mr Kipling gave joy and comfort to our residents who have a love for animals. In fact even residents who proclaim not to be animal lovers couldn’t resist him…

Caroline and Sandra (Head of Activities here at Coxhill) then took Mr Kipling off around the home to meet other residents in their bedrooms. Resident Karen, renowned for her love of animals, welcomed Mr Kipling to her bedside where he rested his head over her bed and enjoyed a jolly good pet. Not sure who enjoyed it most!

It’s so lovely to see our residents light up when they spot the diminutive donkey and they really enjoy Mr Kipling’s company. His visit rekindled happy memories and created conversation topics for residents, our team and visitors alike. We even learnt a new fact – Mr Kipling has a black cross on his back, common to this breed of donkey, and it is said that it is the shadow of the cross of Jesus.

Caroline kept a close eye on Mr Kipling and knows him so well – she raised him and he lives on her farm – so she knew when he had had enough. We were sad to see him go but looking forward to his next visit already.
