Moorlands care home praised as compassionate and cheerful

Moorlands care home, in Lightwater, Surrey, has been praised in its latest Care Quality Commission (CQC) inspection report for providing a professional, caring and compassionate home for residents.

The home was rated as providing a ‘good’ care service in all areas in the inspection which took place in May.

A resident told inspectors: “Without exception, everyone is cheerful, helpful and always smiling.” Another added; “I’m more than happy. I enjoy a chat with staff. They are very kind people; they have a very caring nature.” A relative added; “Staff are always here to help if you need them.”

Another said; “As soon as I stepped inside I knew it was going to be okay for my relative to be here. All the worries I had are gone. It’s a wonderful home and I can’t fault anything. From our first contact with them they were so professional and helpful.”

Part of the Caring Homes Group, Moorlands care home provides residential and nursing care for up to 40 elderly people, some of whom are living with dementia.

The CQC praised the home, saying that people were offered a wide variety of activities throughout the day and residents enjoyed the food provided and said they had a good choice of meals.

One relative said; “The food is really good. It’s fresh and home cooked. Dad enjoys his meals.”

The report continues, stating that people were supported by caring and compassionate staff and felt safe at the home. Staff were seen treating residents with respect and maintaining their dignity.

One relative said; “I feel very reassured. I could not wish for anything better.” Another added “They still want to give my relative his independence. They want to enable him. They don’t want to make up his mind for him. I wouldn’t want it any other way.”

Tracey Jepson, Home Manager, said: “At our previous inspection in February 2016 we were given improvements to make and the team here at Moorlands has worked extremely hard since then to ensure we are providing the best possible care.

“At Caring Homes we want to ensure that our home is just that – a caring home. Here at Moorlands we have been forging links with the community. We have had local sixth-formers come in and read to people as well as community groups and church groups come in to visit.

“We are all delighted at the praise we have received from the CQC inspectors following this latest report and that we have now been ranked as good in every CQC category.”

Coronavirus (COVID-19) Update
To Whom it may concern,

RE: A message from the CEO and Clinical Director

At Caring Homes we are following the latest Government advice and stopping visitors to all our homes, except for essential visits by healthcare professionals who will be required to adhere to strict protocols.

We understand that this may be very difficult for families but we are clear in our duty to ensure we protect the health, safety and wellbeing of our Residents and Colleagues as our top priority.

We want you to know that you can contact your loved ones through calls, emails, video and social media and we will support our Residents to view any messages you send over. We are confident that the teams in our homes are doing all they can to ensure that life remains as comfortable and sociable as possible. There will be a full programme of activities delivered by our in-house health and wellbeing teams.

We hope you will understand and support these actions and any further subsequent measures we might need to put in place.

Yours sincerely
