Miranda House to share knowledge of dementia with community

Miranda House, run by Caring Homes in Royal Wootton Bassett, will be hosting a free Dementia Awareness Event next week (Feb 15) open to anyone wishing to explore what dementia is, how it is diagnosed, and the effects it can have on friends and family.

The event will give participants an in-depth understanding about, and empathy for, the psychological needs of a person with dementia. The event is based on Caring Homes’ in-house dementia training programme, Living in My World, which has just won a prestigious Princess Royal Training Award.

Miranda House is a Caring Homes Group care home, providing specialist residential and dementia care in Wiltshire, for up to 65 people. There will be two dementia awareness sessions running on the day, a private session for family members of those living with dementia and a special afternoon session aimed at local businesses and organisations. There will be hints and tips to improve communication and a practical session to understand some of the day-to-day frustrations that affect a person living with dementia.

Caring Homes’ Dementia Training Lead Michele Saunders, says: “The event will enable participants to learn about dementia and help them to challenge the way people think, act and talk about the condition.

“We want to actively promote a dementia friendly community through sharing our knowledge and expertise. These sessions at Miranda House will increase awareness of dementia which can be useful to all sorts of businesses and organisations, and help people understand what life is like for those living with the condition.”

If you would like to find out more or attend this event please call 0808 223 5400 or email enquiries@caringhomes.org.

Coronavirus (COVID-19) Update
To Whom it may concern,

RE: A message from the CEO and Clinical Director

At Caring Homes we are following the latest Government advice and stopping visitors to all our homes, except for essential visits by healthcare professionals who will be required to adhere to strict protocols.

We understand that this may be very difficult for families but we are clear in our duty to ensure we protect the health, safety and wellbeing of our Residents and Colleagues as our top priority.

We want you to know that you can contact your loved ones through calls, emails, video and social media and we will support our Residents to view any messages you send over. We are confident that the teams in our homes are doing all they can to ensure that life remains as comfortable and sociable as possible. There will be a full programme of activities delivered by our in-house health and wellbeing teams.

We hope you will understand and support these actions and any further subsequent measures we might need to put in place.

Yours sincerely
