Memorial Bench at Mill House

Mill House staff are raising a glass, and briefly resting their feet, after receiving the gift of a garden bench from a grateful relative of one of their former residents.

The surprise donation, which stands near the lawn, was a gift from Vivien Tomlinson and her family in memory of her mother, Marjorie Ensley. A plaque on the bench is inscribed ‘In loving memory of Marjorie Ensley and grateful thanks to the staff of Mill House’.

Vivien said:
“I found my lovely mother’s illness so distressing that I thought I would never want to return to Mill House because of its associations. However, I find that because Mum received such loving kindness while she was there, and such good care, that I can only feel affection and gratitude. My husband and I formed a bond with the staff and wish to continue a friendship. I know they did their absolute best for Mum. The bench is to remember her and to express our thanks. I hope that it will bring some pleasure in the warmer weather.”

Dominika Soboczynska, Activities Coordinator said:
“Marjorie was a delightful person and we are very pleased to have this bench in her memory. It is very special to have such lovely feedback from families of the people we care for. We love our jobs, but recognition and kind words such as Vivien’s are very rewarding too.”
