Magna Care Centre Matchless 350 Vintage Bike Talk

Residents of the Magna Care Centre in Wimborne, Dorset had the wonderful opportunity to take a look at a vintage bike known as a Matchless 350 when it arrived at our home.

Steve, who is the husband of  Cheryl our Activity Coordinators, brought in the bike which he has owned for about 3 years now. He knew that the bike would generate a lot of interest and be a real talking point, which it certainly proved to be.

This particularly interested some of our male residents who eagerly thronged around to admire this beautiful machine and discover more about its unique history. The men were all busy chatting about bikes they have had over the years, what engines etc…

We found out that the Matchless was a motorcycle first developed for use by the British Army during the Second World War. it became one of the most popular motorcycles used during the war and The Ministry of Defence continued to use the bikes well into the 1960s.

it was such an interesting afternoon as not only were we able to learn more about this bike but for those who had either owned a motorbike or had a family member who had one, it brought back some very fond memories. It sparked off lots of conversations amongst our residents.  Unfortunately none of them were allowed to ride it but they did agree, to get up close to such a magnificent machine and a piece of history was a real treat.

One of our ladies made us laugh the next day when she said, she had noted that all the men were round the bike like bees around a honey pot and yet the day before it had been all the ladies grouped around a visiting puppy!

Magna Care Centre in Wimborne is a stunning care centre providing residential and specialist nursing care for up to 63 elderly residents. The home has been praised in its latest CQC inspection report and was rated as providing a ‘Good’ care service with a coveted ‘Outstanding’ rating for being well-led.

Coronavirus (COVID-19) Update
To Whom it may concern,

RE: A message from the CEO and Clinical Director

At Caring Homes we are following the latest Government advice and stopping visitors to all our homes, except for essential visits by healthcare professionals who will be required to adhere to strict protocols.

We understand that this may be very difficult for families but we are clear in our duty to ensure we protect the health, safety and wellbeing of our Residents and Colleagues as our top priority.

We want you to know that you can contact your loved ones through calls, emails, video and social media and we will support our Residents to view any messages you send over. We are confident that the teams in our homes are doing all they can to ensure that life remains as comfortable and sociable as possible. There will be a full programme of activities delivered by our in-house health and wellbeing teams.

We hope you will understand and support these actions and any further subsequent measures we might need to put in place.

Yours sincerely

Paul Jeffery – Chief Executive Officer
